Hypertraxx : The Darkside : Tales From the Darkside (2000)

Sometimes, like tonite, I wonder why I’m even doing this project… pick up the camera, take a quick snap, screw around with it in Photoshop and then match a song to it… I much prefer to do it the other way around, pick a song and then match the photo too it. Oh well… I’ve come this far, would be a shame to stop now.

Anyways, love this track - it’s one of my all time trance/dance/techno faves…

Won’t you enter the Darkside with me?

As far as processing? Hah. Low light settings, cropped to widescreen settings, duplicated the image to a new layer, auto colored it in Photoshop, set that layers layer mode to luminosity, ran the Urban Acid action on it and left the muted colors layer set to 100% hence the B&W. Hope it doesn’t freak ya too much - if it does, oh well…

another cold and lonely rainy day comes to an end
i have to clear my mind before i sleep or else attend

Incubus : Drive : Make Yourself (1999)

Love this song. The acoustic version is just plain sick. This song is an in car cranker for sure.

Sometimes, I feel the fear of uncertainty stinging clear
And I can’t help but ask myself how much I let the fear
Take the wheel and steer

Who/what’s driving your life?

As an off note, slight change in plans… I’ve been trying to keep up with my contacts streams and it’s becoming harder and harder, so I’ve made a choice… I’m not asking for comments, and I don’t expect any comments or favorites… but for the most part I will be switching my view to display friends and family photos UNLESS I have a nice chunk of free time that day, then I’ll have a look at all my contacts… what does this mean for you? Simple. If you are one of those who regularly comment/fave, I’ve marked you as a friend (most of you were marked as such anyways). New people that come and comment will be added as well… I know I’ll be missing a lot of great photography but it’s the only way I can think of to keep up with the number of images coming through my contacts list on a somewhat regular basis… and I’m working at catching up on some of your streams!

And last, positive note on the camera, getting a loaner XTi body from the camera shop on Monday and they expect to have mine back by Friday!

======================================================================

Sometimes, I feel the fear of uncertainty stinging clear
And I can’t help but ask myself how much I let the fear
Take the wheel and steer
It’s driven me before
And it seems to have a vague, haunting mass appeal
But lately I’m beginning to find that I
Should be the one behind the wheel

Whatever tomorrow brings, I’ll be there
With open arms and open eyes yeah

Whatever tomorrow brings, I’ll be there
I’ll be there

So if I decide to waiver my chance to be one of the hive
Will I choose water over wine and hold my own and drive?
It’s driven me before
And it seems to be the way that everyone else gets around
But lately I’m beginning to find that
When I drive myself my light is found

Whatever tomorrow brings, I’ll be there
With open arms and open eyes yeah

Whatever tomorrow brings, I’ll be there
I’ll be there

Would you choose the water over wine
Hold the wheel and drive

Shania Twain : You Don’t Impress Me Much : Come On Over (1997)

Can’t believe I’m using this song lol… I HATE country… dunno if you can really class this one as true country though, considering she had a country and pop/world/dancified international release of this album with different versions of each song…

Anyways, the title fits. The saga continues… the camera store so kindly offered to loan me an XTi body for the WEEKEND OF THE WEDDING ONLY… ummm hello?!?!? Thanks for the gesture but seriously, you told me MAX 8 weeks and today was 8 weeks exactly, and I don’t have a camera… I need a camera NOW, not just for the weekend of the wedding… talked to the manager about it and he said he would see what he could do and said he’d call me back tomorrow morning…. pfffft - I’ll believe that when I hear my phone ringing…

Maybe she doesn’t impress you much either… this might impress you much though.

======================================================================

I’ve known a few guys who thought they were pretty smart
But you’ve got being right down to an art
You think you’re a genius-you drive me up the wall
You’re a regular original, a know-it-all
Oh-oo-oh, you think you’re special
Oh-oo-oh, you think you’re something else

Okay, so you’re a rocket scientist
That don’t impress me much
So you got the brain but have you got the touch
Don’t get me wrong, yeah I think you’re alright
But that won’t keep me warm in the middle of the night
That don’t impress me much

I never knew a guy who carried a mirror in his pocket
And a comb up his sleeve-just in case
And all that extra hold gel in your hair oughtta lock it
‘Cause Heaven forbid it should fall outta place

Oh-oo-oh, you think you’re special
Oh-oo-oh, you think you’re something else

Okay, so you’re Brad Pitt
That don’t impress me much
So you got the looks but have you got the touch
Don’t get me wrong, yeah I think you’re alright
But that won’t keep me warm in the middle of the night
That don’t impress me much

You’re one of those guys who likes to shine his machine
You make me take off my shoes before you let me get in
I can’t believe you kiss your car good night
C’mon baby tell me-you must be jokin’, right!

Oh-oo-oh, you think you’re special
Oh-oo-oh, you think you’re something else

Okay, so you’ve got a car
That don’t impress me much
So you got the moves but have you got the touch
Don’t get me wrong, yeah I think you’re alright
But that won’t keep me warm in the middle of the night

That don’t impress me much
You think you’re cool but have you got the touch
Don’t get me wrong, yeah I think you’re alright
But that won’t keep me warm on the long, cold, lonely night
That don’t impress me much

Okay, so what do you think you’re Elvis or something…
Oo-Oh-Oh
That don’t impress me much!

Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh-No
Alright! Alright!

You’re Tarzan!
Captain Kirk maybe.
John Wayne.
Whatever!
That don’t impress me much!

Skinny Puppy : Anger : Cleanse Fold and Manipulate (1987)

Yeah I’m pissed tonight. Between the local camera shop and the Canon repair center… it’s been 8 weeks and my repair HASN’T EVEN BEEN STARTED. In a nutshell, I found out three weeks after I authorized the repair that the camera store didn’t inform Canon that I’d authorized the repair. Four weeks after that the store said they submitted but couldn’t get a hold of anyone there to get an ETA. Today find out that Canon sent a repair estimate approval request to the camera store wondering if the camera was authorized to be fixed. I HAVE A WEDDING TO SHOOT IN 24 DAYS PEOPLE!

So here’s a good anger song, crap video to boot - good old school Canadian talent.

threesixtyfive : twothirteen : o canada!

July 2nd, 2008 by Haeretik

O Canada : Calixa Lavallee, Sir Adolphe-Basile Routhier, Robert Stanley Weir (1880)

Today was Canada Day so it was only fitting… spent the day with the family and my parents at some of the downtown Canada Day festivities.

From Wikipedia:

"O Canada" is the national anthem of Canada. The song was originally commissioned by the then Lieutenant Governor of Quebec, the Honourable Théodore Robitaille, for the 1880 St. Jean-Baptiste Day ceremony. Calixa Lavallée wrote the music, which was a setting of a patriotic poem composed by the poet and judge Sir Adolphe-Basile Routhier. The text was originally only in French.

An English translation of the lyric did not appear until 1906, and it was two more years before Robert Stanley Weir penned an English version, which is not a translation of the French. Weir’s words have been revised twice, taking their present form in 1980, but the French lyrics remain unaltered. "O Canada" was not officially Canada’s national anthem until 1980, when it was signed into law on July 1 as part of that year’s Canada Day celebrations.

The official English and proper French translations are quite different indeed!

One of the best performances of our national anthem I’ve ever heard… yeah it helps to be an Oilers fan ;)

=======================================================================

Official (English)
O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide, O Canada,
We stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

Official (French)
Ô Canada!
Terre de nos aïeux,
Ton front est ceint de fleurons glorieux!
Car ton bras sait porter l’épée,
Il sait porter la croix!
Ton histoire est une épopée
Des plus brillants exploits.
Et ta valeur, de foi trempée,
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits;
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.

Translation of French Lyrics
O Canada!
Land of our forefathers
Thy brow is wreathed with a glorious garland of flowers.
As in thy arm ready to wield the sword,
So also is it ready to carry the cross.
Thy history is an epic
Of the most brilliant exploits.
Thy valour steeped in faith
Will protect our homes and our rights
Will protect our homes and our rights.

Pearl Jam : Low Light : Yield (1998)

Just playing with my new toy… picked up a Speedlite 430EX! Now I have about a month to learn how to use it before the wedding shoot - figured I’d test it on me first… turned out all the lights and let the flash do it’s work… anyone have any guides or cheat sheets???

Anyways, this is a killer track… and the title fit ;)

Snag a listen and watch the live performance.

Didn’t do much to this shot either, MINOR brightness/contrast and a bit of an unsharpen mask.

===================================================================

Clouds roll by
Reeling is what they say
Or is it just my way?
Wind blows by, low light
Side-tracked, low light
Can’t see my tracks, your scent-way back

Can I be here all alone?
Clear a path to my home
Blood runs dry
Books and jealousy tell me wrong
I WILL feel, calm
Voice blows by, low light
Car crash, low light
Can’t wear my mask, your first, my last

Voice goes by
Two birds is what they’ll see
Getting lost upon their way
WIND ROLLS by, low light
Eye sight, low light
I need the light
I’ll find my way from wrong, what’s real?
The dream I see

threesixtyfive : twohundredten : fade to black

Metallica : Fade to Black : Ride the Lightning (1984)

Homage/tribute to M. Gruber. He just completed this 365 - well done man, seriously… For those of you who didn’t have the pleasure, check out his journey.

To be honest, it’s tough to pull of a Gruber shot! Why’d I pick this one? Because it spoke to me most amongst all his shots - there’s a few out there who put their heart and soul into their work and haven’t received the recognition… yet. Matt, your day will come my friend, hopefully sooner than later - you deserve it.

Snag a listen.

========================================================================

Life, it seems, will fade away
Drifting further every day
Getting lost within myself
Nothing matters, no one else

I have lost the will to live
Simply nothing more to give
There is nothing more for me
Need the end to set me free

Things aren’t what they used to be
Missing one inside of me
Deathly lost, this can’t be real
Can not stand this hell I feel

Emptiness is filling me
To the point of agony
Growing darkness taking dawn
I was me, but now he’s gone

No one but me can save myself, but it’s too late
Now I can’t think, think why I should even try

Yesterday seems as though it never existed
Death greets me warm, now I will just say goodbye, *Goodbye*

Marshall Lawrence : Doctor of the Blues

Friday at the annual Works Art & Design Festival featured an acoustic blues performance by Marshall Lawrence, the Doctor of the Blues.

Decent show, would have liked to hang out longer but work beckoned!

Check out the complete set, as always will be uploading over the next couple days…

Once again - reflected in the shades… was hoping for a full week but couldn’t get out 2 of the days. Nice to get these out of the way early on in the day as well!
