Ministry

Not the shot I wanted for today, but ya gotta take what you can get sometimes…

Ministry… have loved those dudes for a long time (after all they’ve been around since 1981), a lot of people don’t take me for the Ministry type (industrial metal). Anyways, they’re on their farewell tour so a buddy and I drove to Calgary (about 3h south) of here to catch the show. I brought along my P&S hoping to snag a few shots during the show but the pat down - or should I say the security fondling - led to me having to coat check my camera. So no pics from the concert…

Anyways, what a night - concert was to start at 8pm, but one of the opening acts had issues at the border and held shit up for two hours. As a result, we didn’t get in until 9, the opening bands didn’t perform, and the concert didn’t actually start until 11:15pm… and went for about 2h. Was great though! Every other song was introduced as "here’s another song about our idiot president!" - their last three albums have been very anti-Bush to say the least… then it was back in the van and driving back home as my buddy had to work today - finally hit the sack myself at 5 a.m. Was well worth the trip!

No songs or lyrics today, will be hitting some Ministry songs throughout my threesixtyfive as I go… all though here’s a few they played that I really enjoyed:

Lies Lies Lies (lyrics/video)
No W (lyrics/video)
The Dick Song (lyrics/listen)
N.W.O. (lyrics/video)
Thieves (lyrics/video)
Just One Fix (lyrics/video)

N.W.O., Thieves and Just One Fix were actually sung by Burton Bell of Fear Factory and Ascension of the Watchers… was very cool!

They didn’t play Jesus Built My Hotrod (lyrics/video) though… guess you can’t have everything… but they did play some cool covers of The Doors (Roadhouse Blues), The Rolling Stones (Under My Thumb) and ZZ Top (Just Got Paid). From what I’ve heard the album, called Cover Up (due out April 1) will have Ministry covers of Under My Thumb, Bang a Gong, Radar Love, Space Truckin’, Black Betty, Mississippi Queen, Just Got Paid, Roadhouse Blues, Supernaut, Lay Lady Lay, and What a Wonderful World - yes THAT What a Wonderful World; I can’t wait!
